Area Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service Binghamton NY
Issued by National Weather Service State College PA
1017 AM EDT Mon Jun 2 2025
.SYNOPSIS...
The week will start with a stretch of drier and warmer weather
as high pressure settles overhead through Wednesday. A frontal
system then brings the next chance for showers and thunderstorms
on Thursday.
&&
.NEAR TERM /THROUGH TONIGHT/...
10 AM Update...
No changes made to the previous forecast.
310 AM Update...
Clouds have hung around much later than previously expected,
lasting well into the early morning hours. Weak mid level
shortwave has kicked off some very light rain across portions of
Central NY, but rainfall amounts were only a trace to a
hundredth of an inch. The frost advisory will be left as is for
now, but skies are only just starting to clear across the
western half of the area and temperatures are still well into
the 40s where the cloud cover has held on. Where skies do clear
in the next hour, there will still be some low potential for a
light frost, but most likely the frost advisory will have to be
cancelled in some areas.
Temperatures today will quickly rise into the upper 60s to low
70s. Skies will become partly cloudy overnight as an area of
low to mid level moisture moves into the region. Nightly lows
will be in the 40s to low 50s.
&&
.SHORT TERM /TUESDAY/...
300 AM Update...
Relatively quiet period is in store with high pressure in place.
Overnight lows Tuesday night will stabilize as temperatures
will fall into the mid 50s to low 60s. Strong ridging also takes
hold with anomalous heat building into the region especially on
Wednesday. Afternoon highs will surge into the mid to upper 80s
with clear skies. Some areas in the Finger Lakes and southern
Tier counties could see temperatures reach 90 degrees.
Dewpoint/RH forecasts seem fairly normal thus not expecting
significant heat problems from excessive Heat Indices, but the
warmth will definitely be noticed. Warm conditions continue
Wednesday night with strong southerly flow in place. Overnight
temperatures will start to feel more like summer with lows in
the 60s across the area. Although some showers may attempt to
move in late Wednesday night ahead of the next system, but model
soundings keep dry air in place.
&&
.LONG TERM /TUESDAY NIGHT THROUGH SUNDAY/...
300 AM Update...
A frontal system approaches the region from the west bringing a
chance of showers and thunderstorms by Thursday. The front slows
down as it bumps into the backside of the elongated ridge keeping
showers going through Saturday. A slightly deeper trough may give
the necessary push to get the front through on Sunday with the
potential for conditions to dry out some. Temperatures remain fairly
warm on Thursday. A cooling trend develops into the weekend but not
too extreme as the developing trough is much more subtle than the
closed lows of the past several weeks
&&
.AVIATION /14Z MONDAY THROUGH FRIDAY/...
High pressure is building into the region today with VFR
conditions expected at all terminals. AVP should see fog lift
around 12Z and decided not to include for with this forecast
update.
Outlook...
Tuesday into Wednesday...Mostly VFR. Smoke or haze aloft
possible at times.
Thursday through Friday...Chance for showers and associated
restrictions.
&&
.BGM WATCHES/WARNINGS/ADVISORIES...
PA...None.
NY...None.
